According to a report by TrendMicro, 2011 saw a tremendous increase in Mobile malware attacks.  Android malware volume increased exponentially, stealing confidential, personal information.  Mobile malware mostly found in China-based 3rd part application stores come disguised as battery-monitoring, installed app identifying, or task listing tools as well as others.    Menard Osena, TrendMicro Solutions Manager stated, “If trends hold we may be able to see more than 120,000 malicious Android apps by the end of 2012″.  Other Android Malware types include Data Stealers, Premium Service Abusers, Click Fraudsters, Malicious Downloaders, Spying Tools, and Rooters.

Hand in glove with the Mobile malware attacks are the Social Media attacks.  Social media spammers make use of phishing pages and fake sites to spread malware or as site redirectors on unsuspecting users.  “With or without Facebook, unenlightened users will make a mistake and divulge private information no matter what social network you drop them into”, stated Jamz Yaneza, TrendMicro Threat Research Manager.
